Protection Associate

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non- governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. 

​Libya remains a key destination and transit country along the central Mediterranean route for migrants seeking to reach Europe. Migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Libya are highly vulnerable to violence, exploitation and abuse with limited access to critical lifesaving support, such as health services, food, shelter and protection assistance The complex political context, characterized by ongoing tensions and security challenges, creates an environment of insecurity, violence, and human rights abuses against migrants. The situation is especially dire for children in these mixed migration flows, as they have limited access to education and their caregivers often lack documentation, face unemployment, and are at risk of arbitrary detention, trafficking, or forced family separations due to their irregular entry into Libya. Social isolation further hinders their access to essential protection services. IOM established its operations in Libya in 2006. Throughout the country, IOM provides a comprehensive response to the needs of affected population. In this context, IOM also engages with Libyan authorities, the United Nations system, non-governmental organizations and communities to develop capacities in order to better support migrants, internally displaced populations and host communities.  

​Under the overall supervision of the Protection Policy and Capacity Development Officer, the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Associate (Capacity Building), and in close coordination with other relevant units of the programme, the incumbent will support the implementation of IOM Libya Protection Capacity Building activities. The incumbent will be based in Tripoli with travels to other areas of responsibility throughout the country.
